…Part 7 of 90!!

 

That’s right folks, IT’S THE END OF WEEK 1.WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Seven days in and I’ve done some core work, some cardio, some shoulders and arms, some abs, some legs and back, some kenpo (aka karate), and some stretching. It’s a lot for one week, but the workouts are surprisingly simple at times. Occasionally we delve into the complex (you have no idea how long it took me to get low blocks right), but after a week I’m pretty sure I understand most of the moves here. And thankfully, it’s the same workout each day of each week for the 1st three weeks, so I’ve got time to nail everything down. Week four will be more cardio than muscle work, and then it’s into Phase 2.

All in all, I feel good about starting this program. I was nervous at first, A) because I didn’t want to start it and then fail, and B) because I’ve never been much of a believer in these kinds of programs. I mean, I’m all about fitness, but I’m pretty convinced that doing just a little bit of work every day (some jogging, or lifting, or sporting) + eating sparsely and mostly fruits, veggies, and grains = staying in good shape. Sure, you won’t end up looking like Tony Horton that way, but you’ll live longer, have more energy, and will still get to enjoy nice things in life like steak, tv, and whatever other bad habits you might want. Essentially, it’s all about moderation, right?

This program is not about moderation.

It’s about busting your ass every day for at least an hour, and avoiding bad foods (i.e. stuff that tastes better than most other stuff). That’s not to say that you can’t enjoy living like that. Plenty of people do. I suppose it’s partly how you’re wired, and partly discipline. But I love certain things, and partaking of those things makes me happy, so I’m gonna do what I want most of the time, and make up for it the rest of the time. So why the hell am I doing P90X?

 

Well, you gotta give the other side a try sometimes. Plus, if I can get to a nice little platform of fitness, it may be ten times easier to stay in good shape while still enjoying myself. So let’s hope this thing works out.
